Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AA and 12th in the AISA. The Pirates are led by head coach Michael Smith who is entering his second season at the helm. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Pirates open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilcox Academy on Friday, August 25 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Wilcox Academy Wildcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class A region two. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Crenshaw Christian by a score of 32-6. Pickens Academy and Wilcox Academy have met a total of 18 times on the football field.
