Southern Academy completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 2-2 region record and a third place finish in Class A region one, the Cougars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Last year Southern Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Lowndes Academy team by the score of 35-0. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Cougars qualified for the playoffs. The Cougars hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Osborne saw improvement as they won five games following a 0-9 record in 2021. Since 2010, Southern Academy has gone a combined 50-84. Their 37.3% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Southern Academy has managed to compile a record of 166-111. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class A and 9th in the AISA. The Cougars will be under the direction of new head football coach Brian Osborne as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Osborne has been a Head Varsity Football Coach for the last 12 years and was an Athletic Director for 6 years. He was the Head Varsity Football Coach at Calvary Christian School in Columbus, GA. The Cougars open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Meadowview Christian on Friday, August 25 at Lawson Field. Last year the Meadowview Christian Trojans finished with an overall record of 0-12 and in sixth place in Class AISA-8 Man region one. The Trojans lost in the first round of the Class AISA-8 Man playoffs to Southern Prep Academy by a score of 47-20. Southern Academy and Meadowview Christian have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 15-3-0 record against the Trojans. They last met in 2022 with Southern Academy winning by a score of 46-6. The Cougars return AISA All-State Senior athlete Campbell Webb.
