Verbena completed the 2022 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region four, the Red Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Verbena's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sweet Water by a score of 48-8. The Red Devils improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2016. The Red Devils won as many games as in any season since 2015. It marked the first time since the 2016 season that the Red Devils qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, the Verbena football program has struggled with a record of 43-89. Over the past 25 seasons, Verbena has managed to compile a record of 89-168. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 1A and 321st in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Allen Brothers who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-9 over the past two seasons at Verbena. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brothers. Over the course of his career, Coach Brothers' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Red Devils have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region four this season. Jacob Morris will be back this season at running back after rushing for 639 yards and 6 TDs in 2022. The Red Devils open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Central Coosa on Friday, August 25 at Red Devil Stadium. Last year the Central Coosa Cougars finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 2A region four. The Cougars closed out the regular season with a loss to Autaugaville by a score of 70-20. Verbena and Central Coosa have met a total of 4 times on the football field.
