2023 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wenonah finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Wenonah finished eighth in Class 5A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Wenonah was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Dragons want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.6 points a game. The Dragons would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Wenonah has gone a combined 71-62. Their 53.4% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wenonah has managed to compile a record of 127-120. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 5A and 182nd in the AHSAA. The Dragons are led by head coach Nicholas Howard who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-15 over the past two seasons at Wenonah. The Dragons have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Howard. This season, the Dragons will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. The Dragons open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Sylacauga on Thursday, August 24 at Bell-Culpepper Stadium. Last year the Sylacauga Aggies finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in sixth place in Class 5A region four. The Aggies closed out the regular season with a loss to Piedmont by a score of 41-20. This will be the second meeting between Wenonah and Sylacauga on the football field. The Dragons have a 1-0-0 record against the Aggies. They last met in with | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
