 2024 Preview 


       Brilliant finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Brilliant finished eighth in Class 1A region five with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Brilliant football program has struggled with a record of 35-110.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Brilliant has not won much with a record of 83-177. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 1A and 340th in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
     Tanner Harris  leaves Brilliant after just one season to return to his hometown in Columbiana to take the head coaching position at Houston County. His one year produced a record of 3-7 at Brilliant. He also served as the boys basketball and softball coach while at Brilliant.

2024 Head Coach:
    Hayden Bryant  was a star football and baseball player at Brilliant and now will be the next head football coach for the Tigers in 2024. He was all-county between 2015-2018. Bryant is a graduate of North Alabama where he was a student assistant coach in 2022 and completed his master's degree in 2023.

Season Outlook:

       The Brilliant Tigers will play in Class 1A region five during the 2024 season.

      

       It was just four seasons ago that the Tigers from Brilliant finished 7-6 winning a couple of playoff games. Since then they have won just five games the past three seasons. They will also be on their fourth head football coach since then. Can Coach Bryant get the ship righted and get them back to the playoffs in 2024?

    The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Shoals Christian on Friday, August 30 at Flame Field. Last year the Shoals Christian Flame finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region eight. The Flame lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Lynn by a score of 53-7.

       Brilliant and Shoals Christian have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-2-0 record against the Flame. They last met in 2007 with Shoals Christian winning by a score of 27-13.
