2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fruitdale finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Fruitdale finished sixth in Class 1A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Fruitdale averaged scoring just 9.0 points a game. The Pirates also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 39.5 points a game. The Pirates would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Fruitdale football program has struggled with a record of 44-101. Over the past 25 seasons, Fruitdale has not won much with a record of 81-176. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 1A and 348th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: John Hobbs leaves Fruitdale after just two seasons with a record of 3-17. 2024 Head Coach: Lane Brown takes over the reins at Fruitdale as the next head football coach. This will be his first head coaching job in football. Season Outlook: The Fruitdale Pirates will play in Class 1A region one during the 2024 season. After a three year span of making the playoffs the Pirates have come up short the past two seasons. For that to happen they will need some improvement on offense. Last year they scored just 90 points. The Pirates will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just a single win last year, Fruitdale will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. Season Opener: The Pirates open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Pleasant Home on Friday, August 30 at Pleasant Home Stadium. Last year the Pleasant Home Eagles finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in ninth place in Class 1A region two. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Georgiana by a score of 61-0. Fruitdale and Pleasant Home have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 0-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2017 with Pleasant Home winning by a score of 27-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
