2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Haleyville completed the 2023 season with a 8-4 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region five, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Haleyville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Cherokee County by a score of 49-14. Since 2010, Haleyville has gone a combined 86-68. Their 55.8% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Haleyville has managed to compile a record of 146-124. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 4A and 171st in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Haleyville lost 4A All-State receiver Brett Coleman to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Head Coach: The Lions are led by head coach Bo Culver who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 39-19 over the past five seasons at Haleyville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Culver. Over the course of his career, Coach Culver's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won two region championships. Season Outlook: The Haleyville Lions will play in Class 4A region five during the 2024 season. Has Coach Culver found a home in Haleyville? While he has been a head football coach for a dozen seasons he has never stayed at one school more than three years in a row. This will be his third season with the Lions. Both seasons the Lions have finished in second place behind Dora. Can they break through this year and grab a region championship? The last one they won was back in 2016. Haleyville will return a bunch of starters from last season especially on offense. Shifting a few around will help the offense this fall. They will also be counting on a few younger players to step up and fill positions on defense. Coach Culver had this to say about his Lions in 2024. ''We have an incredible group of hard-working young men. They understand what our standard is and what they have to do day in and day out in order to maintain that standard. I could not be prouder or more excited to see how they progress. God Bless and Roar Lions.'' The Lions are considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
