Sparta Academy finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-10 record. With their 1-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class A region two, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Sparta Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lowndes Academy by a score of 47-0. The defense allowed a team record 486 points last season. The Warriors would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-20 record. Since 2010, Sparta Academy has gone a combined 50-99. Their 33.6% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AA over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sparta Academy has not won much with a record of 89-171. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class AA and 23rd in the AISA. Head Coach: The Warriors are led by head coach Arlton Hudson who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-33 over the past five seasons at Sparta Academy. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hudson. His 155 wins rank 7th among active coaches in the AISA. The win total includes 136 wins in Alabama and 19 victories from outside the state. Over the course of his career, Coach Hudson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won four region championships. Season Outlook: The Sparta Academy Warriors will play in Class AA region one during the 2024 season. The Warriors move up in classification to Class AA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Warriors will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just a single win last year, Sparta Academy will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. Season Opener: The Warriors open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Southern Prep Academy on Thursday, August 22 at Stuart McGehee Field. Last year the Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers finished with an overall record of 7-6 and in fourth place in Class AISA-8 Man region one. The Fighting Rangers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class AISA-8 Man playoffs to Springwood by a score of 61-14.
