 2024 Preview 


       Bessemer Academy completed the 2023 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fifth place finish in Class AAA region one, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Bessemer Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Autauga Academy by a score of 29-20.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Bessemer Academy has gone a combined 121-52. Their 69.9% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AAA over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Bessemer Academy has finished a combined 237-73. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AAA and 1st in the AISA. The Rebels have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

Season Outlook:

       The Bessemer Academy Rebels will play in Class AAA region one during the 2024 season.

      

      

    The Rebels have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region one this season.

Season Opener:
       The Rebels open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent South Choctaw Academy on Friday, August 23 at Jackson Memorial Stadium. Last year the South Choctaw Academy Rebels finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class A region two. The Rebels lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Southern Academy by a score of 36-22.

       Bessemer Academy and South Choctaw Academy have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 0-2-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 1991 with South Choctaw Academy winning by a score of 34-0.

Bart Starr received coaching from Kentucky great Babe Parilli his senior season at Sidney Lanier in hopes of joining Bear Bryant at Kentucky. He had to settle for Alabama.
