Clarke Prep completed the 2023 season with a 8-5 record. With their 2-2 region record and a third place finish in Class AA region two, the Gators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Last year Clarke Prep reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Banks Academy team by the score of 64-3. The defense allowed a team record 405 points last season. Since 2010, Clarke Prep has gone a combined 89-78. Their 53.3% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AAA over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke Prep has managed to compile a record of 178-114. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AAA and 6th in the AISA. Graduated All-State Players: Clarke Prep lost AISA All-State running back Alex Hayes to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate defensive back Ashton Williams. Coaching Change: Ashley Carlisle 2024 Head Coach: Charlie Taylor His 121 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Taylor's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won three region championships. Coach Taylor won a state championship at South Choctaw Academy in 2007. Season Outlook: The Clarke Prep Gators will play in Class AAA region two during the 2024 season. The Gators move up in classification to Class AAA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Gators should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2009 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024. Season Opener: The Gators open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Wilcox Academy on Friday, August 23 at Billy Hamilton Field. Last year the Wilcox Academy Wildcats finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in first place in Class A region two. The Wildcats lost in the Class A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Lowndes Academy. They final score was 20-7 in Troy. Clarke Prep and Wilcox Academy have met a total of 33 times on the football field. The Gators have a 19-14-0 record against the Wildcats.
