2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Escambia County completed the 2023 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Escambia County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region one with a 3-4 region record. The Blue Devils improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2019. The Blue Devils have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. Since 2010, Escambia County has gone a combined 50-93. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Escambia County has not won much with a record of 81-174. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 4A and 339th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Blue Devils are led by head coach Vincent Harris who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-10 over the past two seasons at Escambia County. The Blue Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Harris. Season Outlook: The Escambia County Blue Devils will play in Class 4A region one during the 2024 season. The Blue Devils won six games last year for only the second time since 2010 but fell just short of getting in the playoffs. Just one more victory would have landed them a playoff spot for the first time since the 2010 football season. With the addition of Mobile Christian and W.S. Neal to the region things will only get more difficult for the Blue Devils in 2024. Remember Region one also has Jackson and St. Michael residing there. The Blue Devils could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Unfortunately, Escambia County finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any chance at the postseason. Escambia County has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2010 but hope to return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Jamarion Robinson will be returning for his junior season after completing 95-of-192 passes for 1,480 yards and 21 TDs last season. Returning Starters: ATH Jovaughnta Henderson, CB/WR SheMarion Matthews, ATH Marrion Hooks, CB/WR Dallas Owens Season Opener: The Blue Devils open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Alabama Christian on Friday, August 23 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the Alabama Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 3A region three. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Houston Academy by a score of 49-18. Escambia County and Alabama Christian have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 1-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2007 with Escambia County winning by a score of 12-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
