2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Flomaton completed the 2023 season with a 7-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region one, the Hurricanes earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Flomaton reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Trinity by a score of 35-0. Since 2010, Flomaton has gone a combined 99-61. Their 61.9% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Flomaton has managed to compile a record of 155-119. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A and 114th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Flomaton lost 3A All-State running back Jax Fillmore to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate defensive lineman Miles Adams. Head Coach: The Hurricanes are led by head coach Doug Vickery Jr. who is entering his nineteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 124-78 over the past eighteen seasons at Flomaton. Under his direction the Hurricanes have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times. They have won one region crown with Coach Vickery Jr.. Coach Vickery Jr. led to a state championship in 2018. His 150 wins rank 35th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Vickery Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Flomaton Hurricanes will play in Class 3A region one during the 2024 season. The Hurricanes rebounded last year to finish 7-5 after a disappointing 3-7 record the previous year. They also made a return trip to the playoffs after a year away. Look for Coach Vickery to have his troops ready for another playoff run in 2024. It will not be easy for them to get back to the post season this year with the addition of T.R. Miller and Bayside Academy to Region One. The Hurricanes should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Season Opener: The Hurricanes open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Clarke County on Thursday, August 22 at Hurricane Field. Last year the Clarke County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 7-6 and in first place in Class 2A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to B.B. Comer by a score of 42-22. Flomaton and Clarke County have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 2-3-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2017 with Clarke County winning by a score of 50-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
