 2024 Preview 


       Florence completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region four, the Falcons earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Florence's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Thompson by a score of 42-0.

       Florence was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Falcons want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game.

       Since 2010, Florence has gone a combined 84-71. Their 54.2% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 20 seasons, Florence has managed to compile a record of 121-99. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 7A and 140th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Falcons are led by head coach Kenny Morson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-8 over the past two seasons at Florence. Under his direction the Falcons have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Morson.

Season Outlook:

       The Florence Falcons will play in Class 7A region four during the 2024 season.

      

       The Falcons will play a difficult non-region schedule starting off with Hillcrest Tuscaloosa to open the season and Muscle Shoals the next week. Both games will be on the road. They will close out the regular season by hosting a very good Oxford team on November 1st.

       This season the Falcons can accomplish something no other team at Florence has ever done. If they are able to reach the playoffs it will mark the fourth consecutive season for the Falcons something they have never done previously.

       The Falcons return five starters from last season to the offense and another eight on defense. Coach Morson will also be counting on a few newcomers to contribute as the season progresses. He told us ''We have a great group of young men working really hard on the field and in the classroom!''

    The Falcons should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Season Opener:
       The Falcons open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Hillcrest Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 23 at Roy Johnson Jr. Stadium. Last year the Hillcrest Tuscaloosa Patriots finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 6A region four. The Patriots lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Saraland by a score of 31-21.

       This will be the second meeting between Florence and Hillcrest Tuscaloosa on the football field. The Falcons have a 0-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in with

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
