 2024 Preview

Fort Dale Academy completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class AAA region one, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Last year Fort Dale Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Lee-Scott Academy team by the score of 42-3.

The Eagles improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2017. The Eagles won as many games as in any season since 2010. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs. The Eagles hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Folmar saw improvement as they won nine games following a 4-6 record in 2022.

Since 2010, Fort Dale Academy has gone a combined 75-78. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class AAA over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Fort Dale Academy has managed to compile a record of 162-119. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AAA and 12th in the AISA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Fort Dale Academy lost AISA All-State  offensive lineman Jon Nolan Lawrence to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive back Alan Alvarez and punter Ethan Alford.

Head Coach:
The Eagles are led by head coach Eric Folmar who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-17 over the past three seasons at Fort Dale Academy. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Folmar. Over the course of his career, Coach Folmar's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

Season Outlook:

The Fort Dale Academy Eagles will play in Class AAA region two during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in AAA but move from region one over to region two.

The Eagles of Fort Dale Academy enjoyed their best season since 2010 with a 9-3 record last year. They will be out to at least match or improve on that showing when the season opens against Crenshaw Christian on August 23rd.

The Eagles will return six starters on offense and seven to the defense in 2024.

Coach Folmar told us. ''We've got a lot to replace from the class of 2024 but we like the group we've got. We won't be as deep as we were a year ago but we still have a lot of experience with this group of seniors, many of which have started since 9th grade. The offensive line will be the strength on that side of the ball with 3 returning starters. We hope to be able to lean on our defense more this year than we have the last couple of years.''

''We'll be breaking in some new guys in important spots so it will be critical to get them ready to play. We've got a tough schedule but we hope to continue to build on the success of the 2023 season.''

The Eagles are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: OL- Asher Young, OL- Grey Carter, OL- AJ Gosselin, RB- Cole Salter, WR- Dain Winters, WR- Clay Gardner
DEFENSE: DL- Asher Young, DL- AJ Gosselin, DL- Chandler Little, LB- Jackson Black (leading tackler), LB- Cole Salter, DB- Dain Winters, DB- Clay Gardner
NEWCOMERS: Brock Tolson - LB transfer from Greenville HS

Season Opener:
The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Crenshaw Christian on Friday, August 23 at Fort Dale Stadium. Last year the Crenshaw Christian Cougars finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class A region one. The Cougars lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Jackson Academy by a score of 46-28.

Fort Dale Academy and Crenshaw Christian have met a total of 28 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 17-11-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2003 with Fort Dale Academy winning by a score of 43-14.
