2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gaylesville finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Gaylesville finished seventh in Class 1A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Trojans lost as many games as in any season since 2017. The defense allowed a team record 403 points last season. The Trojans last playoff victory came during the 1975 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Gaylesville averaged scoring just 6.4 points a game. The Trojans also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.3 points a game. The Trojans would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Gaylesville has gone a combined 44-96. Their 31.4% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Gaylesville has not won much with a record of 81-172. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 1A and 347th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Trojans are led by head coach Brian Knapp who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-33 over the past five seasons at Gaylesville. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Knapp. Over the course of his career, Coach Knapp's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . Season Outlook: The Gaylesville Trojans will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Trojans remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region eight. The Trojans enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Trojans have qualified for the playoffs just once in the past ten years. They actually have not won a playoff game since 1975. Gaylesville will return five starters on offense and six to the defense. Coach Knapp says this will be his most experienced team at Gaylesville with a big senior class. This season, the Trojans will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. Returning Starters: STARTERS: DE/RB- Karrson Ray, RB/LB- Alex Beatty, OL/DE- Caden Angle, QB- Hunter Allmond, OL/DL- Tanner Hughes, TE/DB- Collin Hendon Season Opener: The Trojans open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Donoho on Friday, August 23 at Roy Knapp Sr Field. Last year the Donoho Falcons finished with an overall record of 0-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region six. The Falcons closed out the regular season with a loss to Cedar Bluff by a score of 45-6. Gaylesville and Donoho have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 11-8-1 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2013 with Donoho winning by a score of 49-40. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
