2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Geneva County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Geneva County finished eighth in Class 2A region two with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2002. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Geneva County averaged scoring just 4.0 points a game. The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Geneva County has gone a combined 71-79. Their 47.3% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva County has managed to compile a record of 120-147. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 2A and 220th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Josh Thompson departs from Geneva County after only two seasons with a record of 3-17 to show for his efforts. 2024 Head Coach: Al Gilmore was hired at Geneva County just weeks after the departure of Coach Thompson in March. Gilmore is a graduate of G.W. Long High School and spent the last six seasons assisting the Elba Tigers football program. He has also worked at Wicksburg, G.W. Long, and Dale County amongst other schools in our area. This will be his first head coaching job in football. Season Outlook: The Geneva County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region two during the 2024 season. The Bulldogs enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 12 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Bulldogs went winless last year for the first time since 2002 and will be looking to new head coach Al Gilmore to right the ship and get the program back on a winning track in 2024. This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Geneva County will be to simply win some games. Season Opener: The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Pleasant Home on Friday, August 23 at Pleasant Home Stadium. Last year the Pleasant Home Eagles finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in ninth place in Class 1A region two. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Georgiana by a score of 61-0. Geneva County and Pleasant Home have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 8-1-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2013 with Geneva County winning by a score of 33-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
