2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holt finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Holt finished seventh in Class 4A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Ironmen have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Ironmen last playoff victory came during the 1998 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Holt averaged scoring just 5.6 points a game. The Ironmen also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 44.0 points a game. The Ironmen would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Holt football program has struggled with a record of 20-119. Over the past 25 seasons, Holt has not won much with a record of 53-198. Their 21.0% winning percentage ranks 61st in Class 4A and 373rd in the AHSAA. The Ironmen have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1998. Head Coach: The Ironmen are led by head coach Brian Newton who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Holt. The Ironmen saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Newton arrived. The Ironmen have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Newton. Season Outlook: The Holt Ironmen will play in Class 4A region four during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Ironmen remain in 4A but move from region three over to region four. Holt will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Ironmen enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Ironmen have gone 25 consecutive seasons without finishing a single year winning more games than they lost. Could this be the year they break that long standing streak? It is highly unlikely in Coach Newton's second season. But hopes are high he can use this year to build upon the football program. Holt returns seven players who started or saw significant playing time last season on offense and five to the defense. Coach Newton will also be counting on a few young players to fill in the gaps left by graduation in 2024. Coach Newton said. ''Holt will be young, but improving from years past.'' This season, the Ironmen will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: Orion Jackson, John Hall, Omar King, Kalix Grisby, TJ Harris, AJ Cockrell, Demarcus Hutton DEFENSE: TJ Harris, Markeyth Jackson, AJ Cockrell, Kaden Simpson, Daitwan Jordan NEWCOMERS: Jaelan Wilson, Antwan Long, Jaylon Scott, David Murphy Season Opener: The Ironmen open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, August 23 at Woody Clements Field. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 1A region three. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Francis Marion by a score of 25-6. This will be the second meeting between Holt and R.C. Hatch on the football field. The Ironmen have a 1-0-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
