 2024 Preview 


       J.B. Pennington completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region seven, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. J.B. Pennington's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Piedmont by a score of 44-14.

       Since 2010, J.B. Pennington has gone a combined 70-84. Their 45.5% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, J.B. Pennington has managed to compile a record of 113-158. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 3A and 262nd in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       J.B. Pennington lost 3A All-State  defensive lineman Grant Austin to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Coaching Change:
     Caleb Miles  leaves J.B. Pennington after just two seasons as the head coach to accept a job at Arab as a coordinator. His two teams at Pennington finished with a record of 17-5 with a couple of playoffs spots.

2024 Head Coach:
    Jordan Cantrell  resigned his head coach position at Florala and accepted the same job at J.B. Pennington. After ten seasons as a head coach his record is 49-58 at West Limestone, Elmore County and Florala. Over the course of his career, Coach Cantrell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

Season Outlook:

       The J.B. Pennington Tigers will play in Class 3A region six during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 3A but move from region seven over to region six.

      

       The Tigers enter the 2024 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak.

       The Tigers have found success the past four seasons winning at least eight games the past four years. Even with all that success they will be under new direction in 2024. They have also reached the playoffs in each of the past eight years.

    The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2015 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Susan Moore on Friday, August 23 at Larry Patterson Field. Last year the Susan Moore Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 3A region seven. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Geraldine by a score of 56-14.

       J.B. Pennington and Susan Moore have met a total of 79 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 34-44-1 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2023 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 28-7.
