 2024 Preview 


       James Clemens completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. Last year James Clemens captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-1 record. James Clemens's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hoover by a score of 42-16.

      

       James Clemens is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only twelve seasons. They have managed a record of 75-56 over the past twelve years.

       Over the past 12 seasons, James Clemens has managed to compile a record of 75-56. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 7A and 119th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       James Clemens lost 7A All-State  defensive lineman Jaylen Brown to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Jets are led by head coach Chad McGehee who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-11 over the past three seasons at James Clemens. Under his direction the Jets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach McGehee. Over the course of his career, Coach McGehee's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won two region championships.

Season Outlook:

       The James Clemens Jets will play in Class 7A region four during the 2024 season.

      

       A 7-4 record last season and another region championship should have the fans in an optimistic mood at James Clemens. Can they repeat in region 4? More importantly can they win a first round playoff game something they have not accomplished since 2019 in three attempts.

       The Jets have a brutal non-region schedule that includes an opening game at home against Gardendale, a midseason game against Spain Park and they close out the season at Homewood.

    The Jets should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      Ty Marsh will return at QB in 2024 after completing 115-of-195 passes for 1,545 yards and 14 TDs last year as a junior.

      Cameron Berry also returns at RB after rushing for 657 yards and 7 TDs as a junior last season. Ty Doughty at WR also will return after catching 56 passes for 739 yards and scoring 5 TDs last year.

Season Opener:
       The Jets open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Gardendale on Friday, August 23 at Madison City Schools Stadium. Last year the Gardendale Rockets finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 6A region five. The Rockets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Gadsden City by a score of 44-16.

       James Clemens and Gardendale have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Jets have a 3-2-0 record against the Rockets. They last met in 2023 with James Clemens winning by a score of 26-21.
