 2024 Preview 


       Lee completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Lee just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region eight with a 2-3 region record.

       The Generals improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2017.

       Since 2010, Lee has gone a combined 51-93. Their 35.4% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lee has managed to compile a record of 98-163. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 6A and 302nd in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Lee lost 6A All-State  running back Carlin Long to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Generals are led by head coach Irving McGuire who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-18 over the past three seasons at Lee. Under his direction the Generals have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach McGuire.

Season Outlook:

       The Lee Generals will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2024 season.

      

       The Generals lost all-state running back Carlin Lee (1,509 yards) to graduation. They finished last year with a record of 5-5 and just missed out on one of the four playoffs spots in Region 8. Can they improve enough to grab one of those elusive spots in 2024? With the addition of Southside Gadsden to the mix in the region it could be a little more difficult.

    The Generals have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region eight this season. Lee missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Generals open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Grissom on Friday, August 23 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Grissom Tigers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 7A region four. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Buckhorn by a score of 17-13.

       Lee and Grissom have met a total of 50 times on the football field. The Generals have a 19-31-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2021 with Grissom winning by a score of 33-22.

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
