Sparkman completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Sparkman just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 7A region four with a 3-4 region record. Since 2010, Sparkman has gone a combined 56-88. Their 38.9% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sparkman has managed to compile a record of 102-157. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 7A and 294th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Senators are led by head coach Ronnie Watson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-5 record in his first season at Sparkman. The Senators have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Watson. Season Outlook: The Sparkman Senators will play in Class 7A region four during the 2024 season. The offense started out the season like gangbusters over the course of the first five games which resulted in a 5-0 record midway through the 2023 football season. Following an open date the Senators lost their remaining five contests to finish a disappointing 5-5 after a promising start. The Senators have missed the playoffs the past two seasons and would like nothing better than to make a return trip this year. The Senators could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Sparkman missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2024. Players to Watch in 2024: OLB Josh Murphy led the Senators with 112 tackles (67 solo) and will be returning for his senior season in 2024. Sophomore DE Jamarion Matthews racked up 13.5 sacks in 2023 and will be back at that position this season. Returning Starters: WR Zayden Bodner, OLB Jayden Chambers, DE James Cangelosi, DE Jamarion Matthews, DB Anthony Seaton, WR Jonathan Rozier, OLB Josh Murphy Season Opener: The Senators open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Spain Park on Friday, August 23 at Jaguar Stadium at Bob Finley Field. Last year the Spain Park Jaguars finished with an overall record of 7-3 and in fifth place in Class 7A region three. The Jaguars ended last season on a positive note with a win over Pelham by a score of 39-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Sparkman and Spain Park have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Senators have a 1-3-0 record against the Jaguars.
