 2024 Preview

Spring Garden completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region six, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Spring Garden's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Coosa Christian by a score of 28-0.

The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 2017.

Since 2010, Spring Garden has gone a combined 113-51. Their 68.9% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Spring Garden has managed to compile a record of 149-128. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A and 162nd in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Spring Garden lost 1A All-State  defensive back Chapel Pope to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
The Panthers are led by head coach Barrett Ragsdale who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-3 record in his first season at Spring Garden. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ragsdale.

Season Outlook:

The Spring Garden Panthers will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 1A but move from region six over to region eight.

The Spring Garden Panthers are always in the mix for a region championship and a deep playoff run it seems every year. Last year saw them fall off just a little bit and finish with an 8-3 record which is still a very good season. They lost in the first round for the first time since 2014.

After winning five region titles in a row they finished second behind Wadley who will have another strong team in 2024. Last year the offense was great at times but in other games they had trouble putting up points. In four of their games they scored less than 8 points.

Quarterback Noah Barber will step into the leadership role for the offense when the season opens. He will be supported by TE John Welsh, RB/DB Connor Bates, DL Zane Edwards, OL/DL Hayes Garmon, WR/CB Johnny Baker and RB/CB Lucas McGatha. The offense returns eight starters from last season while the defense welcomes back ten starters. Twelve seniors will be on hand when the season opens in August.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Spring Garden has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.     The Panthers are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2013 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Season Opener:
The Panthers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Sand Rock on Friday, August 23 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Sand Rock Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 2A region seven.

Spring Garden and Sand Rock have met a total of 36 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 12-24-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2023 with Spring Garden winning by a score of 48-22.
