2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
grissom finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year grissom finished seventh in Class 7A region four with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as grissom averaged scoring just 11.1 points a game. Since 2010, the grissom football program has struggled with a record of 30-111. Over the past 25 seasons, grissom has not won much with a record of 85-173. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 7A and 331st in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: grissom lost 7A All-State defensive lineman Jalin Edwards to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. Also graduating was teammate athlete Cole Porter. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Rich Dutton who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-22 over the past three seasons at grissom. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dutton. Over the course of his career, Coach Dutton's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times . Season Outlook: The grissom Tigers will play in Class 7A region four during the 2024 season. The Tigers of Grissom will be trying to build off of a 2-8 record last season. They have struggled on the football field over the past twenty years with just one season where they won more games than they lost since 2002. That was a 6-5 record in 2020. The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, grissom will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Returning Starters: De TJ Cole, Jordan Miles Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Lee Huntsville on Friday, August 23 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Lee Huntsville Generals finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region eight. The Generals closed out the regular season with a loss to Boaz by a score of 48-14. grissom and Lee Huntsville have met a total of 50 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 31-19-0 record against the Generals. They last met in 2021 with grissom winning by a score of 33-22. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
