1955 Hanceville Bulldogs Team
I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of a great book from author Ed Ward about the 1955 Hanceville Bulldogs. It is the only book I have ever come across written about a single season for a team. I must say that it is very well done with many color photos and biographies about each member of the team. You really come to realize these guys were a team in every sense of the word. They still get together to enjoy coffee regularly at what they call the 'Bulldog Coffee Club Meeting' held at the Hanceville drug store.
The book has interviews with coaches John Tucker and John Meadows that are good reading. Mr. Ward also included details about each game in 1955 along with the statistics. The book is mainly about the 1955 season but it also wanders the years from 1951 to 1955. Mr. Ward also speaks about his and other players experiences with the recruiting process in the mid 1950s.
Again, thanks to Mr. Ward for sending a copy to AHSFHS.org and if you have interest in obtaining a copy for yourself I am sure he can help you out. Drop me an email and I will send you his contact information.
