1892 First football game played by a high school team when Central Birmingham (Phillips) loses to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
1918 Most of the season is cancelled when a flu epidemic sweeps the state.
1921 The Alabama High School Athletic Association organized.
1924 The AHSAA joined the National Federation on February 28.
  First night game between Cloverdale and Pike Road on September, 23 at the Cramton Bowl.
1934 The AHSAA mandates that schools can play a total of nine games. This lasts until 1947.
1947 Schools are allowed to schedule ten football games each season.
1948 The AHSAA office established in Montgomery.
Cliff Harper became the first full-time executive secretary of the AHSAA.
The AHSAA expanded football to two classifications.
1964 The AHSAA expanded football to two classifications.
1966 First state playoff championship game is held in Montgomery with Sidney Lanier defeating Robert E. Lee 9-7.
Herman "Bubba" Scott becomes the executive director of the AHSAA.
1968 The AHSAA merged with the AIAA.
James Owens of Fairfield becomes first African-American named to an all-state team
1969 The two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown.
1970 The Alabama Independent School Association is formed.
  Monroe Academy wins the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
1974 The beginning of Area/Region play.
1982 The Alabama Sports Writers Association names its first all-state team.
1983 Schools are allowed to play eleven games in anticipation of new classifications for next season.
1984 The AHSAA expanded football to six classifications.
1991 Dan Washburn becomes the executive director of the AHSAA.
1991 The Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame inducted its first members.
1996 First Super Six Championship games held in Birmingham.
2007 Steve Savarese becomes the executive director of the AHSAA.
