   *   A few records on note here which will be included in our updates late.
             Most playoff wins
    T.R. Miller (98) remains No. 2 behind Hoover/Berry (107)
Maplesville (95) moves past Sweet Water (93) and UMS-Wright (94)
Playoff winning percentage (minimum 10 games)
Mars Hill 82.1% (23-5) currently tops the list. Hazelwood & Hoover/Berry are next with 80%.
             Most playoff appearances
Colbert County is at the top of this list with 48. Since 1981 the Indian have only missed the postseason once (2011).
             Most 10 win seasons
Maplesville, Hoover/Berry and T.R. Miller all reached the 10 win mark and remain tied with 29.
             Most winning seasons
Fayette County (4-7) remains at the top of this list with 87 while Demopolis (7-4) 85 moves past Oneonta (2-8) 84.
Consecutive games scoring 40 or more points
Locust Fork now holds that record with 14. The Hornets had 12 coming into the season and secured two more.

   *   We at AHSFHS.org wish to congratulate each and every team making it this far in the playoffs.  Enjoy the moment.  It is a once in a lifetime achievement for many of the fans, players and coaches.  Cherish the next few days because it is a special time in history for many schools.  Show your team spirit with pride.  381 teams began the season in the AHSAA and now only 14 remain.

   *   Undefeated teams have almost disappeared the past few weeks.  The four remaining undefeated teams:
       7A - None
       6A - Saraland (12-0)
       5A - Catholic Montgomery (12-0)
       4A - None
       3A - None
       2A - None
       1A - Wadley (11-0)
AISA - South Choctaw Academy (13-0)

   *  There were not really any major upsets this week.  The biggest was Maplesville knocking off Elba  after entering the game as a 8 point underdog according to the AHSFHS Power Ratings.  Cherokee County was a 2 point underdog to West Morgan but won the game 35-19.

   *   Moody is the only team to win a semifinal game for the first time in school history this year.  All the other winners have been to a state championship game previously.  A first for the Blue Devils.  It is the first time for Tuscaloosa Academy in the AHSAA.

   *   Parker's last trip to a title game was in 1980.  Other teams who have not played a championship game recently  include: Houston Academy 1973, Hackleburg 2009, Jackson 2011 and Maplesville 2016.

   *   Teams who have never won a playoff championship but will have a chance for the first time this week: Parker, Moody, Houston Academy, Hackleburg and Wadley.

   *   With Southside and Sulligent losing it seems all the Cinderella teams are gone and the best teams in each classification remain.

   *   Most of the teams still playing were region champs and No. 1 seeds prior to the beginning of the playoffs with a few exceptions.  Central Phenix City #3, Thompson #2 and Houston Academy #2.

   *   Central could become the first champion to win a title as the three seed since Piedmont in 2021.  That Piedmont team actually tied for the region crown but lost the tie breaker.  The last team to win a championship as a three seed was Demopolis in 2009.

   *   Schools returning to defend their state championship season of a year ago include:  Central Phenix City and Catholic Montgomery.  The Knights moved from 4A up to 5A and still reached the title game.

   *   Catholic can become just the fifth team to win a championship after moving up a classification the same season. The last to do it were Mars Hill and Fyffe in 2020. Ramsay did it in 2016 and Leeds in 2014.

   *   Mark Freeman has won ten state championships at Bessemer Academy, Spanish Fort and Thompson. He is tied with Bobby Carr for the most ever and can break that tie this week.

   *   Here are a few teams with championship game experience with their record in title games:  Cherokee County 1-5, Reeltown 3-7, Thompson 5-2, Central Phenix City 3-2, Saraland 1-3, Mars Hill 2-1 and Maplesville 4-2.

   *   I feel like every Super 7 game this year will be a great matchup and we wish all fourteen schools safe travels and hope your dreams come true for a  Blue Map in 2024.

   *   The current longest winning streak among the AHSAA schools now belongs to Catholic Montgomery with a string of 28 straight victories.  The Knights took care of Vigor 21-7.

   *   The Saraland Spartans, ranked #1 in 6A, are rolling along with 33 consecutive home wins.  They will not have another game on their home turf until next season.

   *   Catholic Montgomery also holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 28 consecutive road games. The Knights will not play another game on the road until 2025.  The neutral site Super 7 games do not count as road contests if they are able to get to Birmingham.
