The playoffs begin in just three more weeks. Who is
in and who is left out? Here are a few tidbits
from the eighth week of football action.

* Scoring averages will be posted for each classification and
every team on Sunday along with the AHSFHS Power Ratings for all teams and our
very own Power Ratings Top Ten for each classification on Monday.
* The AHSFHS Power Ratings got
165 of 196 games correct this
week when picking the winners. That is 84% of the games in the correct
column.
* Follow the Barber
Shop Gurus on Wednesday morning for their latest game analysis and predictions. You can also
try your luck at beating them in the forums on Wednesday.

Once again there were a few great games among the ranked teams this week.

Central Phenix City got past #7 Carver Montgomery 31-26 in a great game.
The Red Devils scored on a long pass shortly after Carver had taken a late
lead.

The #4 Spain Park Jaguars dominated Chelsea 31-3 on Thursday night in a huge
region game.
* #2
Guntersville defeated #9 Scottsboro 34-7 in Class 5A and #6 Moody beat Leeds
for the first time in fifteen years 38-22.

In 4A, Bibb County rolled past Oak Grove 40-14 in another big region
matchup.
* In close games
Jasper stopped Muscle Shoals 2-point conversion attempt to hang on for a
49-48 victory. Hartselle quarterback Noah Lee scored on a 4-yard TD run with 49 seconds as the Tigers
defeated Athens 21-19.
* A few teams have surprised everyone with their early season success.
Williamson and Winston County continued to rack up the wins as both schools have started the 2024 football season
6-0.
* There were several major upsets this week. The
biggest was Central Coosa surprising Lanett 28-21 after entering the
game as a 32 point underdog. Shoals Christian knocked off Cherokee 13-6 after being a pregame
31 point underdog according to the AHSFHS Power Ratings.
* No less than forty-eight teams scored more than 50 points this week.
That is a lot of offense!

Overall Alabama schools have a record of 24-19 against other states
following four weeks of action. They are 5-8 against Georgia, 14-8 versus Florida and 4-0 versus Tennessee. They
are also 1-2 against an opponent from Mississippi and 0-1 against Texas after
Permian beat Bessemer City recently. We are
only counting the AHSAA schools.
* Fyffe has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
172 consecutive polls dating back to the 2009 season. The Red Devils are
the #5 team in 3A following their 49-7 win over Whitesburg Christian.
* The current longest
winning streak among the AHSAA schools now belongs to Catholic Montgomery with a
string of 22 straight victories. The Knights rolled past Headland 63-0. Lowndes Academy in the AISA has a 25 game streak
going.
* Columbia now
holds onto the longest losing streak at 88 straight contests. They now
hold the all-time record for consecutive losses. They lost to Cullman
61-6.
* Catholic Montgomery has a streak of 38 consecutive region
wins. The Knights continue region play next week against Greenville.
* Barbour County has lost
69 consecutive region games
following a 46-0 loss to Calhoun.

The #1 ranked Catholic Montgomery Knights have won
41 straight regular season games.
* The Saraland Spartans, ranked #1 in 6A, are rolling along with 29
consecutive home wins. The Spartans beat St. Paul's on the road this week
by a score of 19-14 this week. They will host Murphy this week.
* Catholic Montgomery also holds onto the longest road winning streak
having won 25 consecutive road games. The Knights next road trip will be to
Greenville on October 18th.

The Fyffe Red Devils extended their streak of
consecutive games scoring once again this past week. They are currently sitting on a string of 328 games
without being shutout. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354
games.
* The Greensboro Raiders won the 500th game in school history
Thursday night as the defeated Wilcox Central 33-0.
* The Cottonwood Bears also joined the 500 win
club while knocking off Ariton 57-6 Friday night.
* The Fyffe Red Devils are sitting on 599 wins in the
school's history. Just another milestone for them.
