The playoffs begin in just two more weeks. Who is
in and who is left out? Here are a few tidbits
from the ninth week of football action.

* Scoring averages will be posted for each classification and
every team on Sunday along with the AHSFHS Power Ratings for all teams and our
very own Power Ratings Top Ten for each classification on Monday.
* The AHSFHS Power Ratings got
163 of 191 games correct this
week when picking the winners. That is 85% of the games in the correct
column.
* Follow the Barber
Shop Gurus on Wednesday morning for their latest game analysis and predictions. You can also
try your luck at beating them in the forums on Wednesday.

As always there were some great matchup between ranked teams this past week.
* #1
Auburn got past #9 Carver Montgomery 29-14 to lock up a region championship.

The #2 Central Phenix City Red Devils fell to # 8 Opelika 23-14 in a huge
region game.
* #4
Mary Montgomery came from a 28-14 deficit to overtake #10 Baker and win the
Region One title.
*
In 6A, #2 Clay-Chalkville dropped a game to #5 Oxford 21-10 and #3 Parker
took care of #6 Homewood 27-17. Both game wrapped up region titles for
the winners.
* Close
games and dramatic finishes? Austin 31-28 James Clemens. The Black Bears held off a James Clemens rally and used a field goal with seconds
left to win the huge region game.
* Theodore's Crishon Overton completed a 35-yard Hail Mary for a touchdown as time expired Friday night to give the Bobcats' a stunning 16-14 road win over Gulf Shores.
* Scottsboro quarterback Jake Jones ran for a 7-yard touchdown with less than a minute
remaining in the game as the Wildcats rallied from a 12-point deficit in the final six minutes
to win 50-47.
* Boaz QB Tyler Pierce ran for an 11-yard touchdown with 15 seconds
remaining in the game to give the Pirates a 42-35 win over No. 2 Guntersville.
* There were several major upsets this week. The
biggest was Boaz defeating Guntersville after entering the game as a 19 point underdog according to the AHSFHS Power Ratings.
Fairfield was also a 19 point underdog but knocked off Bibb County 30-28.
* If
you appreciate offense you will love this stat. No less than fifty-one teams scored
at least 50 points this week.
They were led by Winston County who outscored Tharptown 72-20 and Alabama
Christian who thumped Slocomb by a score of 71-38. That is a lot of offense!

Overall Alabama schools have a record of 25-19 against other states
following four weeks of action. They are 5-8 against Georgia, 15-8 versus Florida and 4-0 versus Tennessee. They
are also 1-2 against an opponent from Mississippi and 0-1 against Texas after
Permian beat Bessemer City recently. We are
only counting the AHSAA schools.
* Fyffe has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
173 consecutive polls dating back to the 2009 season. The Red Devils are
the #5 team in 3A following their 61-19 victory over Holly Pond.
* The current longest
winning streak among the AHSAA schools now belongs to Catholic Montgomery with a
string of 23 straight victories. The Knights have gotten accustomed to
being in 5A very quickly and knocked off Greenville 50-14 this week. Lowndes Academy in the AISA has a 26 game streak
going.
* Columbia now
holds onto the longest losing streak at 89 straight contests. They now
hold the all-time record for consecutive losses. They lost to Athens 54-0.
* Catholic Montgomery has a streak of 39 consecutive region
wins. The Knights finish up region play next week against Andalusia in a
huge game on the road.
* Barbour County has lost
70 consecutive region games
following a 21-0 loss to Luverne.

The #1 ranked Catholic Montgomery Knights have won
42 straight regular season games.
* The Saraland Spartans, ranked #1 in 6A, are rolling along with
30
consecutive home wins. The Spartans beat Murphy 58-7 this week at home. They will
travel to Theodore to wrap up the regular season on the road.
* Catholic Montgomery also holds onto the longest road winning streak
having won 26 consecutive road games. The Knights next road trip will be to
Andalusia this coming week.

The Fyffe Red Devils extended their streak of
consecutive games scoring once again this past week. They are currently sitting on a string of 329 games
without being shutout. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354
games.
* The Fyffe Red Devils won the 600th game in
their program's history. Coach Benefield can lay
claim to 312 of those wins. Just another milestone for them.
