Sports Other Than Football

We thought it was time to give all the other team sports more recognition on AHSFHS.org so here you go.

While we have included the other sports for over a dozen years they have gone unnoticed by many fans simple because it was difficult to find them and even more so to navigate around through each sport. Well, we made all that much easier with a new section that covers each sport much better and will make it easier to get around and find things for you favorite sport other than football.

We now have a homepage for each of the twenty-six team sports played across the state. You saw that correctly. There are now 26 sports between the boys and girls. The newest are flag football and bowling. Well, actually bowling was discontinued for the girls between 1979-2015. So it is an almost new sport.

Be sure to look around to find new things for each sport. Now all the stats we show for each team and coach will be automatically updated with each win and state championship. There are a lot of new stats for basketball and even some for baseball and softball.

All deserve the recognition especially the coaches for each sport. If you can assist us in keeping up with all the coaching changes in all the sports please let me know. We are trying to at least document the head coaches for each state championship team but even that is proving to be difficult at times for some of the minor sports. So if you see where we are missing a coach for one of the state champions let me know.

Simply look in the far left column on the home page for for each sport as in the picture below. To find the other sports click on the link for 'Team Sports'. Or you can take the shortcut and click the link HERE.

Much work goes into keeping everything updated with the all the different sports but with the assistance of fans and especially the many coaches who have help over the years we will be working more intensely to keep up in the future.

Thanks for visiting with us and spending some time exploring the history of high school sports in Alabama.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
