Week Seven Tidbits & Records

Another week closer to the all important playoffs with some great region matchups this week. Here are a few tidbits from the seventh week of football action.

   *   Be sure to catch our podcast this Sunday as we will be posting a new episode covering all the action with Kurt, TP and myself.

   *   Scoring averages will be posted for each classification and every team on Sunday along with the AHSFHS Power Ratings for all teams and our very own Power Ratings Top Ten for each classification on Monday.

   *   The AHSFHS Power Ratings got 159 of 193 games correct this week when picking the winners.  That is 82% of the games in the correct column.

   *   Follow the Barber Shop Gurus on Wednesday morning for their latest game analysis and predictions.  You can also try your luck at beating them in the forums on Wednesday.

   *  A few great games matching ranked teams proved to be some of the best games of the week.

   *  #2 Auburn got by Central Phenix City 38-33 snapping the Red Devils 18 game winning streak.  Also in 7A, #4 Thompson played great defense in defeating #5 Hewitt-Trussville 15-10.

   *  The #1 Jackson Aggie jumped on St. Michael early and ran away from them for an impressive 55-16 victory.

   *  #3 Carver Montgomery fell to #9 Enterprise Thursday night 17-14.

   *  In 6A #2 Clay-Chalkville held off Mountain Brook 21-14.

   *  In 2A #4 Tuscaloosa Academy knocked off #6 Vincent 35-21.

   *  In close games none could have better than Fairview getting by Russellville 50-49 in three overtimes to all but wrap up a region championship.

   *  A few teams have surprised everyone with their early season success.   Williamson and Winston County continued to rack up the wins as both schools have started the 2024 football season 6-0.

   *  The biggest upset was likely Dadeville upsetting Lee-Scott Academy by a score of 13-10 after entering the game as a 19 point underdog. Charles Henderson defeated Andalusia after being a pregame 12 point underdog according to the AHSFHS Power Ratings.

   *   Overall Alabama schools have a record of 22-17 against other states following four weeks of action. They are 5-8 against Georgia, 13-6 versus Florida and 3-0 versus Tennessee.  They are also 1-3 against an opponent from Mississippi and 0-1 against Texas after Permian beat Bessemer City this past week.  We are only counting the AHSAA schools.
