Comments: Phil Campbell comes in 3-6 and having just missed the playoffs in a pretty solid region. They are coming off a complete destruction of Hanceville. Hayden Wingo ran for 339 yards and 3 touchdowns on a whole 12 carries. |
Red Bay comes in 2-6 and will sneak into the playoffs as a 4 seed in a bad region. They coming off one of their only wins of the season having just dispatched Tanner 46-6. RB Jaxon Vinson carried the Tigers on his shoulder finishing with 250 yards on the ground and 78 through the air. |
All the Bobcats have left to play for is pride. Red Bay has another game still remaining. Phil Campbell is better than their record indicates IMO. Their issues have been at the second level defensively which makes a bruising running back like Vinson scary. Phil Campbell has too much at the end of the day for Red Bay. Phil Cambpell finishes the season with a win. |

Comments: The historically strong Cedar Bluff continues recent struggles this year. They haven't made it out of the 1st round of the playoffs since 2017. And they are going to need a little help to make it in this year. They are still alive for a 3 or 4 seed. They come in off a big 28-26 win over Sand Rock that kept them alive. The full return of Hunter Stallings this week was a big lift in knocking off Sand Rock, As he went for 105 and a TD on the ground and secured the win with a big INT late in the game. |
Donoho comes in 4-5 having secured a 3 seed in the 1A playoffs. They are on a 3 game winning streak with the last victim being Woodland to the tune of 31 to 12. The Falcons have shown to have a pretty solid secondary this year, but I don't know that CB will be looking to throw the ball up a lot. |
I said earlier this year that I thought Donoho was vastly improved and I think they have shown that. Stepping up a classification is never easy but I don't think they match up that bad with Cedar Bluff. With Stallings fully back, the Tigers are a much better team. |

Comments: SS Gadsden comes in 6-3 and I think shocking a few people by finishing ahead of Gadsden City this year in the region standings, earning a home playoff game, they are also on a 5 game win streak. They do a really good job in the short passing game, just giving their guys space to create. Guys like Peoples and Garrett have proven dangerous in the open field. The defense has struggled some against decent passing offenses. |
Pell City comes in 4-5 and into the playoffs as a 4 seed, who will be facing the winner of SS's region (Fort Payne) in the first round. Mayson Dates is a legit take it to the house threat at WR. The defense has had problems with the the deep ball and mobile QB's. |
This is a very neck and neck game IMO. I think SS will have trouble working in space against a pretty quick PC secondary. If SS throws the ball deep they may have more success. Pell City also has a dangerous passing attack and SS has had issues with that. I think we will see what some would call a mild upset here. |

Comments: James Clemens comes into the game 6-3, having finished second and the daunting task of hosting Central Phenix City next week in the playoffs. They're coming off a blowout win over hapless Albertville, which saw the Jets rack up 257 yards on the ground. |
Homewood comes in 7-2, finishing second in their region and just having completed a shutout of Minor 41-0. Kaleb Carson did it through the air and on the ground against Minor. The defense also forced two fumbles. Carson has done a good job since the injury to Will Myers, stepping up in big situations. |
I don't know that this game could be much closer. At times Homewood has had trouble wrapping up good running backs and James Clemens Cameron Berry is a load. On the other hand James Clemens pass defense has been suspect at times and Kaleb Carson has done a good job distributing the ball to his receivers. This really is a toss up for me. I am giving the slight edge to James Clemens. I think Berry presents a tough challenge for the Patriots and although I have been impressed with Carson, if he was at his normal position of receiver and Will Myers were back, they'd be much more dangerous (and who knows maybe Myers will be back...I haven't heard anything.) |

Comments: One of the oldest rivalries in the state sees a matchup of region champions in 2A Clarke County and 3A Thomasville. This will be the 108th matchup in the series. The Tigers have won 5 straight in the series and hold a commanding lead overall. |
The Clarke County Bulldogs just wrapped up their 4th-straight region title last week with a 46-12 victory over Washington County. Their closest region game was a 37-16 win over J.U. Blacksher early in the season, but the Bulldogs are just 1-2 in non-region games, the two losses by a combined 14 points. This has been a pretty balanced offense for much of the year, with QB TaMyus Pugh throwing for 200 yards multiple times. |
Thomasville has won their first region championship since 2010, which was also the year of their last state championship. For one of the winningest programs in the state, it's pretty surprising it has been that long. The Tigers have yet to be tested, which is probably equal parts them being a great team and also being in a pretty weak region. Regardless, their closest game was a 50-18 win over Thorsby several weeks ago. They've scored 47+ points in all but two games, and have given up just 49 points on the season. A strong rushing attack is always a staple of Thomasville teams, and this season is no different with two 1,000 yard rushers in Diego Bryant and Dallas Bryant. |
Clarke County is a solid team and will surely bring their A-game for one of the state's top rivalries, but Thomasville keeps on rolling. |

Comments: In 1788, Colonel Joseph Kirkland was traveling with his men down a creek in what is now Conecuh County when a band of outlaws attacked, killing Kirkland and all of his men and stealing all of the silver they had been carrying. It is this same creek that divides the town of Brewton, Alabama between these two schools that now square off in one of the state's most bitter rivalry games-The Battle of Murder Creek. |
The move back down to 3A has been just what the doctor ordered for T.R. Miller. While they had been competitive in 4A, the move back down to 3A had the Tigers dreaming of ending that 22-year state championship drought all offseason. So far, they have looked every bit the part of a championship squad. They dismantled Bayside Academy 43-0 last week in a de facto region championship game. Bayside had been allowing less than 10 points per game, so that was a statement performance on both sides of the ball. 4-Star LB/RB and Florida commit Myles Johnson ran for 137 yards and 4 TDs in that one, while QB Nathan Commander threw for 169 yards with a TD. The defense held the Admirals to just 40 total yards of offense. |
After an 0-4 start, things were looking bleak for W.S. Neal, but they now sit at 4-5, with the lone additional loss coming at the hands of top-ranked Jackson. The Eagles clinched an improbable playoff berth with an upset of Mobile Christian last week by a score of 34-12. The Leopards offense had been rolling, so holding them to 12 points was quite the feat for this W.S. Neal defense that really struggled in the first half of the season. This is a surging team that is playing their best football right now. |
I think W.S. Neal will get off to a fast start in this one, much like they did last week. However, an upset seems very unlikely. The rivalry aspect will keep it closer than expected for a while, but the T.R. Miller Tigers will be too much. |

Comments: All we really know about 3A Region 6 at this point is that Piedmont wins the region, and Locust Fork will likely finish 2nd. Behind those two, there's a good chance we get a 5-way tie for 3rd-7th where each team is 2-2 against the other four. With so much up in the air, let's just call this a must-win game for both teams. |
A month ago, Weaver was winless on the season and coming off a loss to 1A Winterboro. Since then they've won 3 of 4, with the lone loss 26-21 to Piedmont in a game they led until late in the 4th quarter. They are also the only team in the region other than Piedmont to have beaten Locust Fork, which would set them up well should we get that 5-way tie. The Bearcats defeated Westbrook Christian 37-34 last week with a TD on an untimed down to end the game. Recent Jacksonville State commit, QB Kaden Gooden, passed for 278 yards and 3 TDs while adding 116 yards on the ground. |
It's pretty simple for J.B. Pennington this week-win and they're in. The Tigers picked up a crucial 33-30 win over Westbrook Christian a couple weeks ago and are coming off a much-needed bye week. They've averaged well over 30 points per game on offense and can attack however they need to as they are fully capable of throwing and rushing for 200 yards on anybody. Defensively, they are a solid group but have struggled a couple of times this year against dual-threat QBs, which Weaver certainly has. |
J.B. Pennington might be in the best shape of these five teams in Region 6 when it comes to tiebreakers, but that's certainly no guarantee. Weaver could get as high as the 3 seed with a win, but with a loss they will be eliminated. With a lot on the line for this entire region, many people will be interested in the result of this game. |

Prediction: J.B. Pennington 31, Weaver 30 |

Series:
St. Pauls and Spanish Fort have met 17 times on the field....
Spanish Fort holds a 9-8 edge in the games played.
|
|
Comments: These teams have played 16 times previously, with each side winning 8 of those. With a 2-seed and home playoff game on the line, this could be the biggest regular season matchup they've ever had. |
St. Paul's doesn't have a high-scoring offense like many teams have, but that's not abnormal for them. The Saints have built one of the top programs in the state out of playing ball control offense and great defense. This defense, led by 4-Star Junior LB Anthony Jones and Sophomore LB Will Abrams, has allowed double digit points just three times all season, and they haven't allowed 20 points in a game since Week 2. They held Saraland to just 19 points, their lowest scoring output since 2021. |
Spanish Fort is coming off a 20-14 upset loss to a desperate McGill-Toolen team. That loss raises the stakes this week slightly for the Toros. While a win still gives them to 2-seed, a loss could drop them down to the 4-seed if McGill-Toolen gets another win this week. This offense averages exactly 30 points per game. RB EJ King is a standout player on that side of the ball with 848 yards and 13 TDs on the season. The Toros play solid on the defensive side as well. Only Saraland has scored more than 21 on them. |
As most games in this region are, I expect this to be a fairly quick game without a ton of scoring. Great defense is a staple of most Mobile-area teams, so this game could come down to turnovers and field position. I would give St. Paul's the edge defensively, but Spanish Fort has the edge on offense. |

Prediction: St. Paul's 16, Spanish Fort 13 |

|
Comments: The Panthers have been on a historic run once again this season. Having won seven consecutive games, the Panthers set the school record for most consecutive games won with those seven games. Southside Selma got off to a rough start, but have since then bounced back and will be hosting a home playoff game. |
Bullock County is also having a great season. Do not let the record fool you, three of those losses came by a total of five points in those three games. Bullock County is heading back to the playoffs for the first time since 2019, and only the second time in their schools long history. Both schools have the right head coach and are guiding their teams to new heights in each respective program. |
It is a shame that one of these teams has to lose this football game. |
My Prediction: Bullock County has had a great defense this whole season. Southside Selma's offense has been great in their own right. It is a great class of styles, and one will have to break through. That will be Southside Selma. Give me the Panthers to cap off their season. |

Comments: Two programs having much better seasons than I think a lot of people expected them to have. Beulah was not really discussed as a playoff team before the season? Now? They have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs as the three seed in this region as they hold a victory over Dadeville. |
Autauga Academy was coming off a good year in AISA football before making the jump up to AHSAA football. Not many really knew what to expect from the Generals. |
They are in great position to make a run for a state title as they will be the two seed in their region. This should be an interesting battle as Autauga Academy beat a 3A already this year, granted it was not a good one with Prattville Christian. |
My Prediction: I think Autauga Academy has played great, but I think Beulah is just a better team. They are also two classifications higher and that matters. Give me the Bobcats to win and make the playoffs. |

Comments: Lee Scott started the season off strong, and has really faltered at this end stretch. Perhaps the grind of the AHSAA season is taking its toll? Perhaps, but nevertheless they may still make the playoffs, but they need to win this game, and hope other teams don't win. Seems unlikely, but that gives the warriors all the motivation they need to play hard. |
The problem is, the Reeltown Rebels are across the field. Reeltown had a tough start against TR Miller, but has made everyone else they've played look silly. Reeltown is a tough draw, but do they play the starters against Lee Scott? It is not a region game and they may rest the starters; it's not a far-fetched idea. |
My Prediction: I think Reeltown plays their starters, but won't need them for much in the second half. I think Reeltown is the real deal, and Lee Scott will head back to the drawing board for 2025. |

Comments: Here it is, one of the most unknown rivalries in the whole entire state of Alabama. I absolutely love these types of games, and I know these players, fans, parents, and coaches love them as well. Calhoun vs Central Hayneville, also known as the Lowndes Throwdown. The battle between two small towns in the respective communities of Letohatchee and Mosses Alabama. All around the Fort Deposit area. |
Now you may be going, Well Sloth Nationzz why in the world did you pick this game? None of these teams are making the playoffs. Well sometimes High School Football is not about the wins and losses, sometimes it's about more than that. Communities coming together to watch their kids, grandkids, cousins, friends play a game together and cheering them on. Another thing is one of the first articles I ever read about Alabama high school sports was from the Montgomery Advertiser and it was talking specifically about this game(I have no idea why I remember it vividly but it was when I was in a science class, maybe that's why I was bad at science, David would tell you that's why) Calhoun is coming off a playoff appearance from last year, and almost made it this year, but just couldn't get that back to back postseason bid. |
Central Hayneville had a late coaching change and is in a very hard region like Calhoun as both have made the jump up to 2A, which is a hard move for both schools to be able to compete in football. I think this will be a fun football game. There are no postseason implications, just who wants it more, and bragging rights to hold over the other for the rest of the season(Alongside a trophy they do have) Who Wins this game? |
My Prediction: GIVE ME THE CALHOUN TIGERS. Sorry for the all caps but I rarely get to write about them. I think The Tigers take home the trophy and the bragging rights. |
