 The 1955 Coffeeville Panthers were chosen Class A State Champions by the Birmingham News from District 1.
 

 
 

The 1955 edition of the Coffeeville football team were selected as state champions for Class 1A Region 1 by the Birmingham News. The Panthers would finish the season with a perfect 9-0 record and outscore their opponents by a combined score of 219-25.

It would be the first undefeated and untied team in the schools history and the only undefeated team through 2007. The Panthers were led by running backs R.L. Guy and Frank Cotton. The Captain of the Panthers in 1955 was Johnny Ray Motes.

The Panthers began playing football in 1927 and had never experienced a winning season until 1953, just two years prior.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
