The 1959 Montevallo Bulldogs were chosen Class AA State Champions by the Birmingham News from District 3.
The Montevallo Bulldogs rolled through a ten game schedule with only a loss to Chilton County (7-0) as the only blemish on the season.
The Bulldogs beat out other contenders from Piedmont, Dora and Oakman to claim the Birmingham News Districts 5 and 6 State Championship trophy in 1959. Montevallo totaled 80.5 points while Piedmont finsihed with 72.5.
Head coach Theron Fisher along with assistants Charlie Corbett and Charles Martin led the Bulldogs to nine wins with three fumbles contributing to the only loss.
It is the first championship in football for the Bulldogs.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History
Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
