Alabama High School Football Head Coaches
Billy Hamilton
Billy Hamilton was a star football player at Grove Hill Academy before taking his playing skills to Troy State. He later received his degree from Troy.
Hamilton took over the football program at his alma mater in 1983. He has remained with the program ever since. In 1999 the school changed the name to Clarke Prep but the head football coach remained the same.
Hamilton led his Gators to an AISA State Championship in 1987 with a 12-2 record. He won back-to-back titles in 2000-01 and repeated the feat in 2004-05. His 2012 team lost in the title game.
In 32 seasons at the helm, Coach Hamilton has compiled an overall football coaching record of 226-136. Twenty-six of his teams have qualified for the playoffs and he has won five state championships. His playoff record stands at 28-21.
Coach Hamilton was named as the AISA Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2005.
