Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

David Lowery

David Lowery played football at Troy State before embarking upon his coaching career. His first head coaching job came in 1995 at Elba High School. Lowery stayed with the program for two seasons, producing a 12-10 record with two region titles.

Lowery landed the head football coaching job at Brantley High School in 1999 where he remained for the next fourteen seasons. His first Bulldog team finished 14-1, losing to Courtland 13-10 in the State Championship game.

In 2005 the Bulldogs went 13-2 and again lost in the Super Six finals to Addison 21-12. Four years later, in 2009, Brantley broke through with a 14-1 slate and their first championship under the direction of Coach Lowery with a convincing 28-13 victory over Hackleburg in Tuscaloosa.

Coach Lowery was honored on October 26th, 2012 after the homecoming game with Red Level for his 150th win. The victory over the Tigers brought his record at Brantley High School to 150 wins and 27 losses.

The 2012 team also won a State Championship with a 33-0 shutout of Marion County in Auburn to complete a perfect 15-0 season. The Bulldogs scored a near state record 730 points during the season.

Lowery stepped down as the head coach at Brantley in 2012 after fourteen very successful seasons with the Bulldogs. He has been a coach and teacher for 25 years. Lowery compiled a 156-27 record as head coach of the Brantley Bulldogs, including a 31-12 record in the playoffs and an 88-3 region record.

Overall his record is 169-37 in sixteen seasons. All but two of his teams won a region title during his career and every team he coached reached the playoffs. His region record was an amazing 92-3 including 62 consecutive region wins. His region record is most impressive and is tops in the state since region play began in 1974.

Lowery was named as the Coach of the Year by the ASWA in 2009 and 2012. He also coached in the state All-Star game in 2005.

David Lowery, after two state championships and 14 highly successful seasons as Brantleys football coach, accepted a job upstairs. Lowery was named the director of operations for Crenshaw County Schools in 2013.
