Larrie Robinson was born in Mississippi in 1931 and graduated from Florence State (now North Alabama). Robinson served as an assistant coach on John Meadows football staff at Butler from 1966-68. He became the head football coach and athletic director when Grissom High opened in the fall of 1969. The new school fielded a team for the first time and played a junior varsity schedule in 1969. The next year, his first Senior team at Grissom finished 6-4, while the second topped that finishing 10-2. As the athletic director at Grissom, he led one of the top overall sports programs in the state for 20 years. The Tigers won state titles in basketball, baseball, track, soccer, swimming and volleyball, and once finished second in the state in football. Robinsons overall football coaching record is 114-88 in 19 seasons as a head coach. |
