Alabama High School Football Head Coaches
Sam Dour
Sam Dour attended McKenzie high school where he played fullback on the football team. He graduated from Troy State and landed a teaching job Austin school in Georgiana. He became the head football coach at McKenzie in 1969.
After three seasons he moved to Albany, GA where he was a teacher. A few years later he worked at a local grocery store when he decided it was time to get back into coaching. He started coaching the junior high team at McKenzie and assisting on the varsity.
In 1981, he once again accepted the head coaching position at McKenzie. Over the next 15 seasons his teams went 98-68 and qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times. His 1991 team finished with a 14-0 record and won the Class 1A state championship by defeating Courtland 15-7 in the title game.
Following the 1995 season, Dour stepped down as the head coach at McKenzie. The field house at McKenzie was named in his honor.
