Tandy Gerelds received his degree from Auburn University. Coach Gerelds became the head football coach at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham in 1971. Over five seasons his teams finished 36-14. In 1976 he resigned to enter the insurance business. In 1984 he returned to the sidelines and accepted the head coach and athletic director position at Deshler High School. His Tigers won 101 games over the next eleven seasons, making the playoffs every year. They also won eight area and region titles. His region record at Deshler was 34-3. His 1990 team finished 15-0 and won the State Championship by defeating T.R. Miller 28-27 in the title game. The next season they went 13-1 running his wing-T offense. He also served as the principle at Shoals Christian in Florence in 1997. Geralds started the football program at Shoals Christian and served as the first head coach and athletic director. In 2001 he left for Belmont High School in Tishomingo County Mississippi where he became the head football coach. He would coach for one season before being diagnosed with brain cancer. He remained on the sidelines for one more season in 2002, finishing 5-5. Over his 16 year career as a head football coach his teams finished with a 137-50 record. Coach Gerelds was named the Coach of the Year in 1991 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Coach Tandy Gerelds, 60, passed away at his home on January 10, 2003. |
