I like your weekly section on offensive and defensive stats. I saw where Holt is allowing a state worst 56.7 points per game. Is there any way for you to find out how this compares to previous years? By that I mean the worst points per game allowed in the state by a team after 3 weeks. Also, who has the most points given up in one regular season all time? I like reading the stats about the best teams and coaches, but I also enjoy seeing who is on the flip side of the coin also. Thanks a lot!

Amazingly 6A schools have allowed over 500 points in a season. Carver Birmingham did it in 2007 by allowing 546 and Paul Bryant gave up 520 also in 2007.

In 5A Brewer struggled by allowing 493 in 2003.

In 3A Central Hayneville gave up 546 just last year.

Here is a good one for you. You notice that all these teams that struggled on defense are from the past ten years or so. Which team allowed the most points from back in the day before offenses became so explosive?

Answer....
In the 1960s.....
Opelika in 1968 gave up 457 points.
In the 1950s.......
Satsuma allowed 448 in 1957

Looking at the schools that you mentioned, I noticed that they are all 1A or AISA. What is the points scored against records for each classification? I wonder if that makes a difference. I couldn't see the worst 6A school giving up 500 points in a season. If it is too much trouble to figure that out, don't worry about it. Again, I appreciate it!

Holt has allowed 170 points in it's first three games. That is not the record. Woodville allowed 175 last season in their first three games and actually holds the record for most points allowed in a season when they gave up 622 points in 10 games.

Jefferson Christian allowed 178 points in their first three games in 2000.

But, the record belongs to Akron which gave up 210 points in their first three games in 2004.

The closest game Woodville had last year was a 48-8 defeatd at the hands of Westminster Christian. I would not think Holt would break that record of allowing 62.2 points per game.

Other teams allowing over 550 points in a season include Jefferson Christian in 2000 with 598, Warrior Academy in 2006 with 596 and Akron 568 in 2004 while only playing nine games..

On the opposite end for a team that has fielded a team for more than 50 years, Clay County allowed 224 points in 1960. That is their worst season on defense. Not bad.
