Posted - 10/15/2010 : 11:46:43 Ground was borken yesterday on the new Clay County High School to replace Clay County and Lineville. Construction on the new building is supposed to start in Janurary, the article didn't give a completiton but I would think it would be the 2012 season before they begin football. No name was mentioned but I sure hope that Bob Riley High is not the name chosen.
Munford will move across highway 21 and play in their new stasdium tonight. No name for the new stadium was mentioned in the paper.

That would be good I think as well, but it makes too much sense, lol. They could have an amalgam of the colors, even move Giddens over from Lineville or bring back Danny Horn.
Is there a nickname of that area, something like 'Black Mountain Valley' ? Is that part of the Talladega Forest ? They might go in that route.

Posted - 10/16/2010 : 12:41:11 My bet is they will name it something stupid and change it after a year. (See Georgiana) They will do this just to aggravate me because of the difficulty involved in teams that change names. That is a joke not intended to offend anyone.
Honestly I do not think they could ever agree to anything that was not fair to both schools so it will be something not involving the Clay County name. The Hubbard and Hazlewood deal was different because Hazlewood closed and had no real say in anything that happened. It will most likely be Bob Riley High School.

Posted - 10/16/2010 : 12:22:00 In Iowa, school mergers generally just combine both school names, like Clay County-Lineville High. I think this is a good way of honoring both schools' histories.
Iowans do have a tendency to take this too far, and you end up with abominations like Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb-Union-Whitten High (goes by BCLUW), Odebolt-Arthur-Battle Creek-Ida Grove High (goes by OA-BCIG), and Monona-Farmersburg-Luana-Marquette-McGregor High (goes by MFL-MarMac).

Posted - 10/16/2010 : 10:26:09 It would probably have to be something like Clay County Central, Or maybe just Clay High School. The only way to make Clay County be fair is if name is Clay County, make the nickname be the Aggies and the colors to be an amalgam of them both like red & blue.
When Hazlewood & Hubbard merged, Hubbard started using a purple outline on their uniforms, probably a nod to former Hazlewood players.

Posted - 10/16/2010 : 09:27:11 My choice would be Clay County High since that will be the only school in the county but I'm sure that won't happen. It will be located half way betwee Lineville and Ashland. Maybe Hugo Black High. I doubt that will be ity either.

Posted - 10/16/2010 : 06:57:28 Yeah, Riley High doesn't sound right. They also better not name it Clay County either, as there would be riots from half the schools enrollment. Would Ashland High even be fair ? Sometimes progress isn't always in the best interest of high school football. In a less than 5 year span we'll have lost two of the most storied rivalries in the state.
