Posted - 08/30/2023 : 15:19:55 In the summer of 1990, Billy Tohill resigned kind of abruptly. It may have been even before summer practice commenced, thus 1989 was his final season with the school. Therefore, during the 1990 season, there was an interim coach. It was either a one season only interim, or, Ronnie Gilliland was the interim HC in 1990 and then made HC officially beginning with the 1991 season. I was at PHS during that time and I really think that it was the latter. The 1990 season has always been attributed to Billy Tohill's tenure as Pelham HC, but he was definitely gone by the time the season began that year.

Posted - 08/31/2023 : 09:12:20 Thanks so much! It's really something how 33 years later, there still isn't any real idea of why Coach Tohill resigned. He was also the athletics director, so the whole thing was a shock all the way around. It is a wonder that we even did as well as 4-6 in 1990, considering that Coach Gilliland had very little time to put something together for that season. I was saddened to hear that he passed away back in February. He navigated the program through a difficult stretch in 1990.
