By Al Muskewitz East Alabama Sports Today Chelsea Robinson was excited when she was promoted to her first head coaching job last year, but she never got the chance to coach the team. She was really excited last week when the opportunity came around again. Robinson has been named girls basketball head coach and junior high volleyball coach at Donoho. She replaces Destinee Briskey, who left for a coaching spot at Oxford. Robinson was going to be the girls basketball coach at Faith Christian last year, coaching a group of girls she had mentored all through junior high, but left as part of the wholesale changes within the athletics department without coaching a game. She spent this school year as an assistant basketball and volleyball coach at Westbrook Christian. She came to Donoho to help good friend Jamie Clendenin coach the volleyball program, then was approached about the Lady Falcons? basketball post. ?I think everything happens for a reason,? Robinson said. ?I think even though I was really excited about having that group of girls there, I think I needed that year to play against Sand Rock and Collinsville and seeing those really good programs in North Alabama. I think that?s really going to help. ?It helps me as a coach. I have even more experience behind me and I?m super excited about having that group of girls behind me.? Robinson met with her new team for the first time Tuesday and is planning for a busy off-season. ?I was very excited to be getting varsity finally (last year),? she said. ?This is even more exciting because it?s a new place, a new group and having that extra year of experience. I?ve been waiting for it a while, it?s finally here and I?m super excited for it.?

New Hope hired Craig McGill as its new girls basketball coach. McGill spent the previous seven seasons at Summertown (Tenn.), where he went 176-56 with four state tournament appearances. Summertown went 32-3 last season and was the Class A state runner-up. McGill was the Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee Coach of the Year in 2012.
