Coosa Christian filed a lawsuit Monday against the the AHSAA and its executive director to to overturn sanctions including a two-year football playoff ban.
Coosa Christian is asking for a temporary restraining order to allow the Conquerors to play in the state playoffs, which start this week. The lawsuit is also looking for Circuit Court to restrain the AHSAA's penalties against the Coosa Christian football program.
The lawsuit alleges that AHSAA executive director Heath Harmon communicated to the school that it might have its 2025 penalties reversed if head coach Mark O'Bryant is not associated with the school in a coaching capacity next year.
It also seeks to get Coosa Christian's five forfeit games restored and place it back in playoff contention this season along with seeking to override the AHSAA's ruling that the ineligible player has to sit out the first five games of the 2025 season. |

I don't see this going very far. Anyone can file a lawsuit, but the court has to agree to hear it. Most likely will be dismissed once facts are presented from the AHSAA.

Agreed! I think they know that this years postseason is done. I think they want to get 2025 postseason ban off them. |

The biggest problem that Coosa Christian faces is that they've already admitted to violating the rule in question. They actually self-reported the violation but attempted to mislead the AHSAA on the number of games the student athlete participated. This is also a civil court case which means all other transgressions they have committed are admissible. I really do not see this going to the trial phase. I'm certain the AHSAA will be granted a dismissal upon first request.

| Yeah--if they come clean from the jump, they probably only get the ban this season. The lying is what got them the banhammer and will probably never get past first run. |

I'm interested to see if they make the jump back to AISA after their lawsuit gets dismissed.

After gaining more information here is what I understand.
This kid who went from Glencoe Middle School (and never attended Glencoe High School) to Coosa played only a few minutes this season for Coosa. He played during garbage time when Coosa was up big. He was a bench warmer who brought nothing to the team in terms of on the field success, points..etc.
This few minutes of garbage time explains why Coosa did not know which games he played in.

It?s the responsibility of the Coosa Christian coaches to accurately report how many games that he played in. I It doesn?t matter at this point anyway, the playoffs have already started.

You think they didn't know he went in? That's where we are?

I believe they were fully aware of how many games he played in.

The biggest problem that I have with this situation is that Coosa Christian continues to refuse to take responsibility for their wrongdoing. They broke the rules, they were caught, tried to lie their way around it, were caught again, then want to play the victim.

Yup. A "we messed up trying to save our season and will work with the AHSAA to ensure that we get our student-athletes the best chance to compete in 2025" goes a long way. But this isn't helping them at all and is probably hurting them. |

I agree. Everyone also remembers the "message" they sent last year after they were caught playing ineligible players by running up the score (94-7) on their next opponent.

I just read where the judge in this case denied Coosa Christian's request for a TRO.

I am just pointing out that its probably their excuse. They should keep track better. |

That is disgusting. Subjecting kids to the nonsense of a 94-7 score shouldn't happen. I hope the AHSAA sent their own message to the low class cheaters at Coosa Christian. |
