Talk about crazy, the school board is voting on Tuesday about relieving Addison Head Coach David Smothers of his duties as Head Coach at Addison. There is no claims of wrongdoing, no complaints of "coaching to hard" just he hasn't won enough and some parents don't like him.
The man has a 104-46 record in 13 seasons. He's made the playoffs 12 of his 13 years and folks are mad that he went 6-5 this season. Solution, fire the coach. Doesn't matter that his two-time all-state player and qb didn't play a down this year due to an injury suffered during last year's basketball season.
Some things just don't make sense. Who would want this job when a Addison graduate posts a 69% winning percentage and consistently makes the playoffs gets canned because he doesn't have an outgoing personality.
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but this is crazy. Before you ask, no I am not related to him, no I am not friends with him, I just cover the team for the local paper.
Any thoughts? |

Well if they move off him, some program is gonna get a heck of a football coach. Good luck to finding someone better if they make that move. Hard to beat that record and improve

It's official, Winston County Board of Education fired Addison Head Coach David Smothers of his duties last night. No replacement named yet. |

I guess a 13yr record of 104-46 isn't good enough.

Heard two names but don't want to say anything due to not being able to verify. One is active local head coach, who declined, second is retired local head coach who also supposedly declined. Again, don't know for sure that above is correct. |

I figured they had a plan if they were going to fire him. I'm a little surprised nothing has come out. Seems like they may be struggling to find someone to take the job.

Has anything come of these 2 names at Addison? |

Fairly sure both officially declined. New name is a recent coach who retired from the state system this year and went and accepted a head coaching job in Tennessee. Trying to verify if rumor that he accepted the job is true. |

Should know something fairly soon with Addison job opening. They are down to five finalists, with interviews this week. Two with head coaching experience and three assistant coaches. Can't release names yet due to being asked not to until the person is hired. Hopefully they can put this to rest and the community can get behind whomever is hired. |

Does this include the coach from out of state mentioned above or did that ship sail?

Not official but I hear from sources that pending School Board approval Addison has hired Mark Hastings, last year's Lynn Head Coach. Mr. Hastings left Lynn and took a head coaching position in Tennessee for this year. If approved, I am sure he will be, he will be Addison's 18th head coach in their storied history. Welcome aboard Mr. Hastings and I wish you the best. |

Don't know haven't met him. Only thing I can think of is he doesn't have enough time in the Bama system to retire yet. I will ask him when I meet him. He already has been on campus and has spoken with several players and already hired a defensive coordinator. That coach is from Cordova and I have been told his name but honestly don't remember it. Will learn more when he is officially approved for the job, just a formality though. |
