Nice site for Wenonah. I was happy to see a link there to the Wenonah page on our site here. If you are an alumnus, please post a message somewhere there for anyone who might have an old annual which might possibly have old football game scores to help in completing the past histories.

It was a Catholic High School located in the Birmingham, Titusville (Southside) Community. Probably the most well known athlete was Haywood "Pig Ear" Gibson. Was the QB during the winning football era and a very good basketball player.
Later he was very well known high school basketball and football referee in Birmingham.
The high school was established in 1905 at the 6th Avenue and 17th street location. It was closed in 1968 and is now the Our Lady of Fatima, Cathlic Church and Elementary School at 708th 1st Avenue South.

Thanks for the help on these scores. The pre-1970's scores of the historically black high schools of the area are hard to find and any help you can give us is welcome. If you know any sites where alumni from various schools have message boards, or alumni from other schools, please post a message or pass along the address to our site and our search for scores from these schools. I've found reunion websites for Parker, Druid, and others in the past, but not many actually have message boards and the 'contact us' link many times don't work or is full.

In 1968, I was a junior at Wenonah High, playing outside linebacker in the TB game at Fair Park. We played Brighton High School, standing room only. Coach Charles Acon, was our coach. It was his 2nd year at Wenonah. The last time Wenonah had been to the TB game was in 1952. I was two years old. We played Brighton High School regular season and they beat us 26 - 0 at Brighton. At that time we had a 9 - 0 record. We were headed to the TB game when we played Brighton, they had to beat us to go to the TB game. Brighton kicked three field goals in the TB game. Late in the forth quarter, our quarter back Lorenzo Arrington, threw a pass to Greg Bell, and he went in the end Zone. It was a touch down. The extra point failed. Ending score was 9-6 Brighton.
