Summary:

Quarterback Jimmy Dawson and fullback Tony Narramore would lead the Excel offense by scoring two touchdowns each in a 30-6 win over Sweet Water for the 1969 Class 1A state championship. Excel led early in the final quarter but Mickey Pope would tighten the score on a brilliant 86 yard run to cut the margin to 14-6.
Excel would counter the score with one of their own with 2:25 remaining in the game on a 5 yard Narramore run. The two point conversion would almost seal the victory for the Panthers. But, on the very first play following the ensuing kickoff Sweet Water quarterback Herman Huckabee would fumble at his own 32 yard line and Jimmy Dawson would pick up the loose ball and carry it in for the final points of the evening.
Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
