Summary:

Butler would dominate the statistics in the game but could not cross the goal line. The Rebels would outgain Decatur 287-143 but were not able to move the ball when it counted most. The Raiders only serious threat would be an 80 yard drive in the second quarter that resulted in the game's only touchdown.
The score came on a 20 yard pass play from Eddie Mitchell to Jim Rankin. The remainder of the game was played with both defenses playing well. Butler would be making their second title game appearance as they also lost in the championship game in 1967 to Sidney Lanier.
