Summary:
Thomasville won its first state title with a bruising ground attack led by Eric Burroughs, who scored three touchdowns in a 44-6 rout of West Limestone. The championship game was new territory for West Limestone as they had never even made a playoff appearance prior to 1988. It mattered little as Thomasville rolled up 546 yards on the ground, led 14-0 at halftime and blew the game open in the second half.
Thomasville won its last three playoff games by a combined score of 128-20. Burroughs rushed 17 times for 209 yards and the three touchdowns of 67, 51 and 8 yards. Reggie Williams scored two touchdowns on runs of 31 and 2 yards. Quarterback Felton Burroughs had a 31 yard touchdown run. Eric Edwards scored West Limestone's only touchdown when he hauled in a 26 yard pass from Randy Carter in the third quarter to close the score to 36-6.
