 Bob Godsey

Bob Godsey played quarterback at Wilson High School and later at Troy State from 1986-89. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education before leaving for North Alabama. Godsey received his Master of Arts in Education at UNA before getting another Masters degree at Jacksonville State University.

Godsey served as the offensive coordinator at Decatur High School for eight seasons before landing the head coaching job at Brooks in 1998. Godsey also coached baseball for seven years and spent one year as an assistant basketball coach at Decatur.

He went to Killen to take over a Brooks' program that had just gone winless. He spent five seasons with the Lions, posting a 42-15 record that included a 32-5 mark during his last three seasons with the program.

In 2003, Godsey was named head football coach at Hartselle. He replaced Mike Smith, who accepted a position in Tuscaloosa. Coach Godsey has remained with the program ever since. His 2008 team finished the regular season undefeated before losing in the third round of the playoffs.

The 2011 squad won the Class 5A State Championship by defeating Vigor 13-3 in the title game. That team finished the season with a school record 15-0 record.

In 2019 he moved on to Madison Academy as the head football coach.

Godseys' overall coaching record is 233-79. His playoff record is very good at 32-21 and his football teams have won nine region titles.

Coach Godsey was named Class 5A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2010.

Bob's father, R.L. Godsey, was a head football coach at Wicksburg, Abbeville, Geneva County and Rogers between 1955-1981. His overall coaching record was 98-84-10 in 20 seasons as a head coach.
