David McKinney
David McKinney was a freshman on Stevensons championship team in 1979. In 1981, Stevenson lost to Dadeville 3-0 in the Class 2A title game.
McKinney was a three-year letterman as a quarterback at Ole Miss in the 1980s. His father is Kenneth McKinney, who coached Stevenson to Class 2A championships in 1977 and 1979 and Lamar County to the Class 3A title in 1984.
Coach McKinney worked as an assistant coach on his fathers staff at Lamar County. Then between 2004-06 for three seasons he served as the offensive coordinator at South Lamar.
He got his first shot as a head football coach at Gordo in 2007 where he remained for six seasons with a record of 52-22 reaching the playoffs each year.
In 2013 he moved on to Winfield and built that program into a powerhouse in 3A football. All but one of his teams have qualified for the playoffs.
